Highlights from some of the special projects we've been involved in...
The Call (2024/25)
The choir was honoured to be asked to take part in this unique project: a collaboration between artists Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst, and Serpentine Arts Technologies - which proposed new cultural, legal, and technical rituals for art in the age of AI.

‘a fascinating sonic exploration of AI’s limitlessness’ Time Out

Alongside 14 other choirs from across the UK, our voices were recorded for inclusion in an immersive exhibition at London's Serpentine Gallery, and are now part of a Data Trust experiment that allows for the distribution of power between the contributors to AI training data and those who use the models.
We travelled to London to perform live in the exhibition space in January 2025.
Way Above the Houses (2022)
Commissioned by Quays Culture and in partnership with Cirque Bijou, Way Above the Houses was a unique arts project, inspired by the people of Salford and performed outdoors at MediaCity UK in the summer of 2022.
The project was shaped by stories gathered from local people about what Salford means to them, and woven together by critically acclaimed musician Ted Barnes, who wrote new music especially for the piece.
The final performance feature aerial performers, dancers and a community choir organised by Ordsall Acappella Singers and featuring many of our singers.

Honour (2014 - present)
This event brought together hundreds of people in a multimedia performance event at Salford Quays to commemorate 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War.
The event featured stunning projections onto a 100 metre screen, dance, theatre, and a specially created super-choir of almost 300 singers from across the North West - all combining to create a powerful spectacle evoking the chaos of war.

It was an experience which will live long in the memory of anyone who took part, and the 6000-strong audience.

Following this one-off event, Honour Choir continued bringing together singers for commemorative events throughout the First World War Centenary period, 2014-18. including visiting the Menin Gate and the battlefields of Flanders.
The choir is still going strong, performing every year at Remembrance events under the musical direction of Ordsall Singers' MD Jeff Borradaile.
